The Uses of Serial Device Server

Serial device server, also called seial ports server or interface redirection device, which is an device that transmits data between a computer serial port (COM port) and an Ethernet local area network (LAN).

This makes ethernet replace serial cable possible, also reduce the chaos of working station and allow Place serial device far away from the computers where use it .

Serial device server can work with all types of serial devices integrated with peripheral devices simultaneously. Such as Printers, scanners, data collection terminals, display devices, modems, automation devices, security  and alarm systems,  climate control systems.

Most serial device servers provide functions of connect multiple serial devices to a single serial port. Serial device server can be used in wired and wireless ethernet local area network.(LAN). Some serial device servers can cross internet protocol(IP) and Wide area network(WAN) work so as to visit remote serial devices, just like they can connect personal computer or internet server’s serial COM port. The latter one is called ethernet modem sometimes.
